THE SIX CRITERIA

Suppliers of tourism services adopting the code commit themselves to implement the following six criteria:
1.
To establish an ethical policy regarding commercial sexual exploitation of children.
2.
To train the personnel in the country of origin and travel destinations.
3.

To introduce a clause in contracts with suppliers, stating a common repudiation of commercial sexual exploitation of children.
4.

To provide information to travellers by means of catalogues, brochures, in-flight films, ticket-slips, home pages, etc.
5.
To provide information to local "key persons" at the destinations.
6.
To report annually.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT 2010-2013

The international development of the Code is promoted by an international, multi-stakeholder Board of Directors composed of prestigious tourism industry representatives and non-governmental organizations.

UNWTO and UNICEF are Advisory Partners to the Code organization. The Code Secretariat is housed at ECPAT USA in New York. The 2010-2013 international Board of Directors of TheCode was elected at the AGM 2010 and includes the following members:

CLINTON GLOBAL INIT ...
TheCode featured at the Clinton Global Initiative Sept 09
Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Chairperson of Carlson Companies, Inc., shared the Carlson experience in engaging against trafficking and child sex tourism in her intervention at the Clinton Global Initiative, in New York, on September 24, 2009. Ms. Carlson Nelson highlighted the role of the private sector in preventing child sex tourism in the context of a panel on human trafficking moderated by New York Times columnist Nicolas Kristof. Marilyn Carlson Nelson talked specifically about the Code of Conduct steps as practical tools facilitating the protection of children’s rights by the travel and tourism private sector

Against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (Rio de Janeiro, Nov. 25-28, 2008)
TheCode was present in various workshops at the World Congress III (see newsletter No. 18) and honored by the presence of HM Queen Silvia of Sweden at the Code signing by Atlantica Hotels.

THE LAUNCH
North America april 21st 2004

The Code has been successfully launched for the North American tourism market in a ceremony organized in New York by ECPAT USA, WTO and UNICEF. The event was attended by over 100 people, including HM the Queen Silvia of Sweden, representatives of the US, Canadian and Costa Rican governments, travel and tourism professionals.

A generic reporting form is available to be filled either on-line (simplified version recommended to companies submitting a report for the first time) or off-line.
